I understand that injuries do happen. Sometimes our injury or illness is so bad that we are unable to participate in p.e. class in any way. Other times we can participate with a modified activity in someway, as long as our injured area is out of harms way. Below is information regarding medical excuses and our P.E. modification form.
- Medical excuses will sometimes be needed when a child is sick or injured. A parent may write an excuse for 2 consecutive P.E. classes. After 2 days a student will need a doctors’ note to continue to be excused from physical education. If a student has an excuse to sit out of P.E. they will also be excused from activity on the playground during recess for the same period of time. They may go outside and sit on the bench to get some fresh air. Medical excuses need to be dropped off at the office in the morning and please make sure your child understands they will be sitting out of class and recess that day. The office makes a copy for me and puts the original excuse in the students’ medical file.
Some doctors’ notes are written as to modify the activity to best meet the students’ needs.
For example:
_______ cannot participate in lower body activities for 1 week.
A note written this way allows for the child to participate in some areas of class, not affected by the injury.

If you forget to get a doctor's excuse you can call your physician and have an excuse faxed to the school.
